Frequently Asked Questions

Glossy paints are different from other paint brands because they have a high sheen and are very reflective. They are also

easy to clean and maintain.

Emulsion Paints are water based paints which are more long-lasting when compared to distemper paint. Distempers are
more conservative form of paint and have lesser durability than emulsions. Emulsions boast of smoother finish as compared
to distempers.

Generally, the wear and tear to the existing coating or a special occasion or festival is what influences the frequency of painting.
It can range from 4 – 5 years.
In case of interiors, the walls of the kitchen, kids’ rooms, and bathrooms tend to get dirty faster. The paint on the walls of bedrooms
and living areas suffer less wear and tear.
In case of exteriors the level of exposure to the elements determines the life of the coating. Higher the exposure, greater will be
the impact on the life of paint film.
Following the right painting practice and using the right product for the surface are critical in ensuring the best performance and
life of any coating.

Washable Paint helps to keep your walls fresh and clean by offering the ability to clean dirt, stains etc. without affecting the
paint film. Washable Wall Paints are very easy to clean with mild soap solution and a soft sponge. Wall Paints that have
high emulsion content, a component that gives the paint higher wet scrub resistance, will have a better washability and durability.

Putties and primes are the foundation to any topcoat.
Glossy Putties are generally paste like in consistency and designed to level out the undulations on the wall and create a smooth
even surface.
Glossy primers are formulated mainly to improve the adhesion between the emulsion topcoat and the wall. However, there are
specialized primers also in our range that are designed to address specific problems like the stain block primer that helps
hide tough stains. You can refer our technical datasheet for more detailed information about our different products.

Normally three methods are used to apply paint on walls – by brush, roller and spray gun. The paint needs to be diluted to the
right consistency while choosing any of the above methods. Application by roller is the most common method used while applying
wall paint.

Usually, exterior walls exposed to sunlight, rain and dust will need washing before painting. You can use a scrapper / abrasive
paper to remove the loose paint. Use a pressure wash and scrub with a wire brush to remove accumulated dirt, grease, algae,
fungus, and moss growth. For Interior surfaces with oil, grease, or wax stains you can wash it away with a mild soap solution and
a soft sponge. Please make sure that the walls are dry completely before starting the painting work.

Primarily, it depends upon the wall surface to be painted i.e. Interior or Exterior. Depending upon the surface you can opt for various
categories of wall paints like Cement paint, Distempers, Enamels or Emulsions. Wall paints can be selected based on your
requirement of finish, features, and budget.

There are mainly 2 types of interior wall paints namely Distempers and Emulsions. Emulsions offer a better finish and longevity as
compared to distempers. Emulsions generally offer features like smooth/matt/sheen finish, stain resistance, high opacity, coverage,
durability, and are very easy to clean. Indigo Paints offers a wide range of Interior Wall Paints based on your budget and
requirements.

As the name indicates, interior paints are for painting the interior walls of a home or office, while exterior paints are used on the
external walls. Paints for interiors are designed for properties like finish, stain resistance, wash-ability etc., while exterior paints are
designed for durability and the ability to outlast the elements like sunlight, rainfall and resist algae, fungus attack etc

Glossy Exterior weather shield are available in wide variety of colours to enhance the appearance of your house while also making
sure that the walls remain protected from sunlight and rainfall. They also function to keep the surface free from algae and fungus.

Before applying the Wall Paint, clean the surface of loose paint, dust, and grease. Use a pressure wash & scrub with a wire brush
to remove algae, fungus, and moss growth. Apply 2 coats of Indigo Polymer Putty and one coat of Glossy Wall Primer, followed by
2 coats of Glossy Wall Paint keeping 4-6 hours of interval between coats

Wall putty helps provide a smooth and even look to the wall and is a recommended step in the painting system. Wall putty is
generally applied using a putty blade and involves applying multiple coats in thin fine layers to remove any undulations and holes
on the surface.
Apply two to three coats to achieve best results. Make sure the first coat is completely dry before you apply the second coat.
A coat of primer must be applied to the bare wall before you apply acrylic wall putty.

Generally, all types of paints like emulsions, distempers can be used over putty as long as the appropriate primer coat has been
applied

Application of putty on exterior walls is not necessary. However, if one desires a smooth even finish on exterior walls, two coats
of Glossy Exterior putty can be used followed by Exterior wall primer & a topcoat of your choice.

If the previous coating is in good condition and requires no levelling, then putty is not required for repainting.
However, in cases where the previous coating has deteriorated leaving behind uneven surface, or in order to fill nail holes and
small cracks, putty will be required.

It is not recommended to add color to putty

Not all types of wall putty are waterproof. If you are looking for waterproof wall putty, Glossy waterproof wall putty is highly
recommended. It has a special silicon additive that works as a water repellent and is designed to work on interior and exterior
surfaces.

Painting should be done when one starts to notice deterioration in the existing paint film, loss of paint film integrity and algae /
fungal growth.Repainting frequency generally depends on the type of paint used previously and also the conditions the wall has
been exposed to.Generally exterior emulsions can last from 3 years to 5 years depending on the product used and the system of
application, for eg: a product like Dirtproof and waterproof exterior laminate offers long term protection of 5-6 years.

Exterior emulsions are water-based paints that offers protection for exterior masonry surfaces from the elements like sunlight,
rainfall and algae/fungal attack.

Identify the reason for getting your wall painted. For medium term protection and shaded exteriors, you can choose our Exterior
Super Weather Shield.
For long-term, we have Premium XT Exterior emulsion with a rich matt finish and for walls that need that extra shine and that extra
protection from moisture and algae we have Acrylic Laminate.

The steps recommended below must be followed for the best performance of any exterior emulsion.

  1. The surface to be painted must be cleaned thoroughly using a wire brush and clean water. All traces of loose paint, algae, dust,
grime must be removed. Areas where there is a high potential for algae growth must be cleaned using a bio-wash solution before
    painting.
  2. Cracks, if any, on the surface to be painted must be closed.
  3. Areas with constant dampness must be identified and corrected prior to painting. The source of the leak must be fixed
    permanently.
  4. If the substrate shows signs of chalkiness, a primer with anti-efflorescence properties like Indigo WT Sealer Primer must be used.

All our exterior emulsions are water resistant and can withstand rainfall and splashes of water. In fact, Acrylic Laminate and
Dirtproof and Waterproof emulsion repels water and designed to offer water beading effect.
